Midland Teen Court Code of Conduct

Participation in the Teen Court program is a privilege, not a right. This privilege can be lost if you fail to act in a responsible manner.
As a Teen Court participant, you are expected to serve as a role model for your peers at all times. Therefore, you must maintain high standards of conduct and encourage other members to do the same. You should be temperate and dignified and refrain from all illegal behavior. Because of your position, even minor violations of the law may tend to lessen public confidence in the entire Teen Court program. Most importantly, since Teen Court is designed to promote law-abiding behavior, your behavior must be consistent with that purpose.

No Illegal Behavior

No illegal behavior outside Teen Court.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality must be maintained – no talking about court outside of court.

Bias-Free

Teen Court operates free of bias toward a person’s age, race, sex, gender identity, religion, sexual orientation, national origin or disability. Participants are expected to behave as such.

Be Courteous

Do not engage in undignified or discourteous conduct at court or in interacting with peers and Teen Court staff or volunteers.

Dress Code

Appropriate dress is required.

Electronics Off

Cell phones, smart watches, ear buds, and other electronics must be powered off and turned in before court proceedings begin. Parents must turn phones off and put them away during court.

Drug-Free Service

Participation in community service while under the influence is grounds for immediate dismissal from the program.

Behave With Dignity

Undignified behavior while performing community service is grounds for immediate dismissal from the program.
